Weather extremes

The glacier disaster in the Dolomites of northern Italy and a series of temperature records and extreme weather events around the world in recent weeks are a brutal reminder that the effects of climate change are already here. According to NASA, temperatures in April were 1.1 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels (1880-1920).

Our society's lifestyle and ecological footprint is setting off chain reactions that are negatively impacting our ecosystems. We must curb greenhouse gas emissions if we are to remain in an era that can support vital systems and the human species itself.

How is your country responding to the weather extremes? Are further climate protection measures being introduced?
